That FAQ is about using Aqua Tk and R.app, not R (see also item 8): I happiiy use Aqua Tcl 8.5.x with the command-line R, and with front ends designed just to launch a Tk interface. I have installed adehabitat v1.18.11 on R2.15.2 on MacOS 10.8.2. I Whilst the library is successfully installed and loaded, it crashed R when I am trying to run other commands after loading the library. Did anyone experience this before? Is it the Tcl/Tk that causes the problem, could I load the package without the Tcl/Tk? Tcl/Tk application in tegrates the user in terface in to the application, w e split the application and the user in terface in to t w o separate pro cesses using TCP/IP so c k ets to pro vide the in terpro cess comm unicatio n. As a result, the displa y pro cess can run on a sepa-rate mac hine. This not only reduces the size of the sim.

A Starkit is a single file packaging of Tclscripts, platform specific compiled code and application data;designed to facilitate simple deployment of crossplatform applications. The name comes from STandAloneRuntime.

  • Starkits are interpreted using Tclkit (a single fileTcl/Tk interpreter) or ActiveTcl(the 'batteries included' Tcl/Tk distribution from ActiveState). You will need a version of Tclkit or ActiveTcl for each platformthat you want to run a Starkit on. TheTclkit download areacontains versions for Linux, Windows, MacOSX and overtwenty-five other platforms - from PDAs through mainframes.ActiveTcl can be obtained from the ActiveState products page

  • Alternatively, combine your Starkit with Tclkit to produce aStarpack - a single (platform specific) executable file, ideal for easy deployment. Starpacks are useful where you wanta single application file that doesn't need to be unpacked orinstalled. Starpacks can be built on any platform supportingTclkit, for any platform supporting Tclkit. There is a list ofexample Starpacks for Windows, Linux andSolaris towards the end of this page.

  • Starsync is a facility to fetch and update Starkits fromthis archive. It sends only changed files, in compressed form, andso is the quickest, easiest way of keeping your Starkits up todate. See the Starsyncpage for more information.
For more information see the Notes at the end ofthis page orStarkitand Tclkit pages onthe Tcler's Wiki.

Introduction: RNCEP is a package of functions in the R language for statistical computing and graphics. It is intended to simplify the access, organization, and visualization of weather data from the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis and NCEP/DOE reanalysis II data sets. These are two long-term high-quality data sets with global coverage of many relevant atmospheric variables. This package of functions is meant mostly for ecologists to help more easily integrate atmospheric data into ecological research. The functions in the package, however, are robust and will likely be useful in many disciplines.NOTE: RNCEP version 1.0.5 is now available here and on the CRAN repository. This version contains new functions to simulate trajectories according to different behaviors (optionally) using NCEP wind data. If you have trouble installing RNCEP, try updating to a more recent version of R.Software Note:

An introduction to the RNCEP package is available in the journal Methods in Ecology and Evolution.

Descriptions of the flow-assistance equations, and the function NCEP.flight(), are available in the Journal of Theoretical Biology

Kemp, M. U., Shamoun-Baranes, J., van Loon, E. E., McLaren, J. D., Dokter, A. M., and Bouten, W. 2012. Quantifying flow-assistance and implications for movement research, Journal of Theoretical Biology, (308), 56-67, DOI: 10.1016/j.jtbi.2012.05.026.

User's Manual:

The RNCEP User's manual is included in both the source and binary distributions, or may be downloaded separately.

Installation via CRAN:

Pre-compiled binaries and source code for the RNCEP package are now available at the CRAN repository. The package may be installed by entering...
