Blue

Blue Seal™ is a one-step, liquid-applied, water-based waterproofing membrane for exterior foundation walls. Its ready-to-use formulation combines the features of a sealer, and an elastomeric waterproofing membrane based on ETV copolymer rubber. BLUE SEAL’s high solids content and soft creamy consistency make it effective for waterproofing and sealing concrete, polystyrene insulation board, foam insulation, Insulated Concrete Forms (I.C.F.), wood and other common surfaces.

Blue Seal™ cures to a seamless, non-deteriorating rubber membrane that allows for expansion and contraction over a wide range of temperatures. It can easily bridge cracks up to 1.5 mm (1/16”). Blue Seal™ is V.O.C. compliant and does not contain any volatile or harmful solvents, eliminating health and environmental considerations during application. Blue Seal™ is non-toxic through the use of advanced polymer technology, allowing for simple, safe application and easy clean up.

Features

  • Save time and money – Application can be done immediately and quickly after the forms are removed, I.C.F. panels positioned or the block is laid, resulting in little or no time delay on the building site.
  • Low permeability, preventing water and air transmission that can lead to mold and mildew growth
  • Protects against water and air transmission, radon gases, fungi, algae and bacteria; maintains superior performance when exposed to common soil conditions
  • Highly flexible – advanced polymer formulation bridges cracks, which forms substrates and creates a seamless, flexible membrane
  • Paintable – Dries to an ocean blue finish that can be painted.
  • Environmentally Compatible – non-toxic, solvent free, and VOC compliant with no objectionable odours, allowing for simple, safe application and easy soap and water clean up
  • Simple to apply – can be applied by trowel, brush, spray or roller

Q: Where can I apply Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating?
A: Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating is applied to ICF, (Insulated Concrete Forms) Poured concrete, Cement Blocks, Plywood and other construction substrates.

Q: What equipment or tools are required to apply Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating?
A: Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating can be brushed, trowel or sprayed. Roller application is not recommended.

Q: At what temperature should Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating, be applied at?
A: Do not apply Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating when air and surface temperature may go below 2°C (35°F) during the first 72 hours after application

Q: How thick should Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating be applied?
A: Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating needs to be applied to a minimum wet film thickness of 1.5 mm (60 mils), and should not exceed 2.6 mm (100 mils). The final dry coating thickness must be a minimum of 0.8 mm (30 mils).

Q: How long does it take to dry?
A: Curing times will be affected by relative humidity temperatures and airflow. The following times are given. For average conditions and standard thickness. Tack free film in 2-5 hours, 60% cure in 7 days, and complete cure after 28 days under normal conditions. Actual times may differ depending on specific conditions at time of application. It is, recommended that Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating be allowed to air dry to an ocean blue colour film before Backfilling the foundation.

Q: Could Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating, be applied on the interior walls?
A: Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating is not recommended for interior foundation walls where a negative water pressure may apply. Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating should be applied to the exterior foundation walls when a positive pressure is apparent.

Q: When should we backfill the foundation?
A: Can be backfilled within 24 hours or when it changes to an ocean blue colour.

Q: Can Blue Seal be used for roofing or above grade applications?
A: Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating is only recommended for exterior foundations.

Q: Do I need to Parge my block foundation?
A: No parge coat is necessary when using Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating.

Q: Will Blue Seal Foundation Coating adhere to substrates other than I.C.F. and concrete?
A: Blue Seal will adhere to most commonly used building materials such as wood, Structural Insulated Panels (S.I.P), and cured asphalt coatings

Q: Do I need to fill the cracks in my foundation wall?
A: Blue Seal can easily bridge foundation cracks up to 1/16' or 1.5mm

Q: Can Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating, be painted?
A: Yes Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating, can be painted with any latex paint.

Q: Do I need to protect Blue Seal™ Foundation when backfilling, or can we just backfill?
A: We recommended that Blue Seal™ Foundation Coating be protected with a 6mm fanfold membrane or other type of foundation protection board, providing protection against membrane punctures when backfilling.
